RoadData.AI collects, curates and licenses real-world driving data for research, mapping, simulation, and the training and evaluation of machine learning and world models.
This policy explains what data we hold, where it comes from, what we do with it, and what rights you have. It applies to:
● Our datasets and licensing services — the driving data we curate and license to customers
● This website, roaddata.ai
● People recorded incidentally in the footage from which our datasets are built, including drivers, passengers, cyclists, pedestrians and other road users
Who we are. RoadData.AI is operated by DisplayRide Inc., Milpitas, CA 95035
We are the controller of the personal information described in this policy.
Our relationship with DisplayRide. A substantial part of our source data comes from vehicles equipped with DisplayRide devices. DisplayRide Inc. operates its own privacy policy governing what happens inside those vehicles, available at displayride.com/privacy. Where this policy and DisplayRide’s differ, DisplayRide’s policy governs the in-vehicle service and this policy governs what we do with data once it reaches us.
These are the commitments we hold ourselves to. The rest of this policy explains them in detail.
● Faces and licence plates are blurred before any dataset is licensed. Every face and every licence plate — inside the vehicle and on the road — is detected and obscured.
● We do not sell surveillance access to anyone. We operate no search tool, no standing feed, no bulk query capability, and no lookup service against any person, vehicle or plate.
● We require a warrant. We do not provide voluntary access to law enforcement, and we do not license data to companies that resell to law enforcement.
● We do not license licence-plate data, cabin audio, driver-identity data or account-holder identity. These are excluded from our datasets entirely.
● We do not serve law enforcement, auto finance or emergency-response markets.
● Contributors can opt out. Any fleet or camera owner contributing data can withdraw from the program at any time.
We do not operate cameras ourselves. Our data is contributed by others:
DisplayRide-equipped vehicles. Fleets and owner-operators who hold DisplayRide accounts. Participation is governed by their agreement with DisplayRide and can be withdrawn at any time through the DisplayRide portal.
Independent camera owners. Fleets, municipalities, telematics operators and other organisations that operate their own cameras and choose to contribute and monetise their data. Each contributor signs an agreement confirming that they hold the necessary rights and consents to contribute the data.
Contributor responsibility. Contributors are responsible for giving any notice and obtaining any consent required from their own drivers under the law of the states in which they operate — including, where applicable, written consent for any processing of biometric identifiers. We require this by contract and we verify it as part of onboarding. [Confirm the verification step you actually perform, and describe it here.]
What a licensed dataset may contain:
● Video clips of driving, typically a few seconds long, with all faces and licence plates obscured
● Vehicle motion and telematics signals — speed, acceleration, braking, cornering, heading
● Time, coarse location and road context
● Scene annotations describing the objects, actors and events in a clip
● Where the customer requests it, C³O causal annotations describing Context, Cognition, Control and Outcome for the clip
What is never included in a licensed dataset:
● Faces — obscured before licensing, without exception
● Licence plates — obscured before licensing, and never provided as data in any form
● Cabin audio
● Driver-identity
● Driving scores or behavioural assessments attributed to an individual
● The identity of the account holder, the driver or the vehicle
● Any identifier that would allow a customer to single out a person or a vehicle
Before any footage is included in a dataset we license or publish, it is processed to detect and obscure every human face and every licence plate — inside the vehicle and on the road.
We use EgoBlur, an open-source face and licence-plate detection and blurring mode. Processing takes place in our cloud environment after upload.
Limits. No automated process is perfect. If you believe an identifiable face or plate appears in data we have licensed or published, contact us at privacy@roaddata.ai and we will investigate, correct our copy, and notify licensees as described in Section 13.
Unprocessed or unused footage is stored per usual policies.
If you were recorded as a driver, a passenger, a cyclist, a pedestrian or another road user, you did not enter into any agreement with us. We want to be clear about what that means.
What we hold about you. In almost all cases, nothing that identifies you. Faces and plates are obscured, audio is excluded, and no name, account or identifier is attached to a clip.
What you can ask for. You may contact us at info@displayride.com to ask what data exists relating to a specific time and place, and to request deletion. Please give us the approximate date, time and location so that we can locate any relevant material. We will act on your request or explain why we cannot.
What we cannot do. Once a dataset has been licensed to a customer, we cannot recall the copy they hold. We will remove the material from our own systems, exclude it from all future datasets, and notify affected licensees of the deletion request and require them to act on it under their licence terms. We state this plainly because it is a real limit and you should know about it before you rely on a deletion request.
Requests about in-vehicle footage. If your request concerns footage held by a fleet or driver rather than data in our datasets, the account holder controls that footage. Contact DisplayRide at info@displayride.com, or the fleet operator directly.
If you contribute data to us — as a fleet, a camera owner or a telematics operator — we hold your business contact details, account and payment information, and records of the data you have contributed and the compensation owed.
Your data remains yours. Contributing to the programme grants us the rights set out in your agreement. It does not transfer ownership of your footage.
Opting out. You can withdraw from the programme at any time, through the DisplayRide portal if you are a DisplayRide account holder, or by contacting us at info@displayride.com. Withdrawal stops future contributions immediately and excludes your data from all future datasets. It does not recall datasets already licensed, for the reason given in Section 6.
If you are a customer or a prospective customer, we hold your business contact details, the content of your enquiries, your account and billing records, and records of the datasets you have licensed and downloaded.
What licensees may not do. Every licence agreement prohibits the licensee from:
● attempting to re-identify any person or vehicle appearing in the data
● attempting to reverse, defeat or remove the anonymization applied to the data
● combining the data with other sources for the purpose of identifying an individual
● reselling or sublicensing the data to law enforcement agencies, or to any party whose purpose is surveillance of individuals
What we may collect. Pages you visit, approximate location derived from IP address, browser and device information, referring site, and anything you submit through a contact or sample-request form.
Cookies and analytics. We may use to usual search engines like Google Chrome, or equivalent
You can control cookies through your browser settings.
Marketing. If you give us your email address, we may contact you about our services. Every message includes an unsubscribe link.
Customers and licensees, under the terms described in Section 8.
Service providers. We use Google Cloud under written data processing agreements. Service providers may process data only on our instructions and may not use it for their own purposes.
Publicly released datasets. We may publish sample and research datasets on public platforms including Hugging Face. Anything published in this way has been through the anonymization process described in Section 5 and cannot be recalled once published. We treat public release as a decision requiring particular care.
Corporate transactions. If we are involved in a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, data may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will require the recipient to honour the commitments in this policy.
We do not sell surveillance access to anyone. We do not offer any product, search tool, standing feed or bulk query capability that allows anyone to look up a person, a vehicle or a plate.
We require a warrant signed by a judge, or an equivalent court order, before disclosing any data to law enforcement. We do not provide voluntary access. We maintain no interface that allows an agency to search our data.
We do not license data to law enforcement agencies, and we do not license to companies that resell to law enforcement. This is a term of every licence agreement.
Where we are legally permitted to do so, we will notify the affected contributor of a request before disclosing anything, so that they have an opportunity to object.
[Recommended: publish an annual transparency report at roaddata.ai/transparency setting out the number of requests received, complied with, and refused. This is a genuine differentiator in this market and costs very little to maintain.]
We license data to third parties for compensation. Under the California Consumer Privacy Act and comparable laws in other states, this may constitute a “sale” or “sharing” of personal information, even though we remove faces and plates before licensing.
We disclose it as such, and we provide an opt-out.
How to opt out:
● If you are a DisplayRide account holder, use the opt-out control in your portal, or email privacy@roaddata.ai.
● If you are any other contributor, contact us at privacy@roaddata.ai or use the mechanism in your agreement.
● Anyone else, including members of the public, may use the Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information link in our website footer, or email privacy@roaddata.ai.
We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of anyone under 16.
We will not discriminate against you for exercising any privacy right. Contributors who opt out cease to earn compensation for contributed data, which is a consequence of not participating rather than a penalty.
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to know what personal information we hold about you, to obtain a copy, to correct it, to delete it, to opt out of its sale or sharing, to limit the use of sensitive personal information, and not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights.
How to exercise them. Email privacy@roaddata.ai, or write to us at the address in Section 18. We will respond within the time required by applicable law — generally 45 days, extendable once where permitted.
Verification. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request. For requests about incidental recording, we will ask for the date, time and location rather than proof of identity, because we hold no identity information to verify against.
Authorised agents. You may use an authorised agent to make a request on your behalf. We will require proof of authorisation.
Appeals. If we decline a request, you may appeal by replying to our decision. [Some states require a described appeal process and a stated response time — confirm with counsel and complete.]

Data already licensed. Once a dataset has been licensed to a customer, we cannot recall the copy they hold. Their retention is governed by their licence agreement.
We encrypt data in transit and at rest, restrict internal access on a need-to-know basis, log staff access to source footage, and require written data processing agreements with our service providers.
No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects personal information we hold, we will notify affected parties and regulators as required by law.
Our services are business-to-business and are not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13 through this website.
Footage may incidentally capture children as passengers or road users. Faces are obscured before any dataset is licensed or published, as described in Section 5. If you believe data relating to a child requires attention, contact info@displayride.com and we will act on it.
We operate in the United States, and data is stored in the United States
If you access this website from outside the United States, understand that your information will be processed in the United States.
We will post any change to this policy on this page with a new date. If a change materially affects how we use or license data, we will notify contributors directly before it takes effect.
